Nature Corner

We decided that we would like to try and encourage more wildlife into a particular area outside the History Room. We discovered a buried wall and decided to use this as our starting point.
The Nature Corner with Nature Club
We planted lavenders and a budlea below the wall to attract butterflies and bees in the spring and summer. Above the wall, we planted heathers and thyme plants. These should sprawl over the wall and give spiders and other minibeasts hiding places. It should also smell lovely for Mr Parker in the History Room above.

Near the spade in the photograph, we are building up a wood pile for centipedes, woodlice, beetles and millipedes to live in. The nettles are good for tortoiseshell butterflies too!

Badger Cam

These images were captured using one of our new trap cameras.

The camera was attached to a tree just above the assault course over a very wet weekend from the 17th to the 21st October.

Leaves

We looked at the leaves around the Brambletye grounds.

We found:
  • Oak
  • Beech
  • Ash
  • Holly
  • Yew
  • Horse Chestnut
  • Maple
  • Bracken
We then had a little at seeds and berries that we could find.

These included:
  • Acorns
  • Beech nuts
  • Blackberries
  • Conkers (Horse Chestnuts)

We will catalogue what we found using the ICT room.
