Moth Trap

A big thank you to Mr Colville who lent us his moth trap.
We put it out in the middle of the Nevil field last night. The bright bulb attracted moths in all night. We carefully lifted the egg boxes inside to find the moths.

There were a lot of moths but below are some of the stars.

Do you know their names?

It was fascinating to see all of the ways in which the moths used colour to camouflage themselves and blend in to the background.

Owl Attack

Here we have an owl in the bottom righthand corner which has pounced on something. It looks like it has missed as it returns to the fencepost empty-clawed.

This is a spot where a wood mouse set our camera trapseveral times ...

Mr Pheasant

This splendid cock pheasant walked across our camera ...

And then these youngsters walked past at night ...

The chicks and hen pheasants here have a dull, speckled plumage so that they blend into the background. This is good camouflage.

Fantastic Mr Fox

Here is super footage of a very healthy fox investigating our trap camera. He does not look that old and is definitely very curious about the camera ...

Camera Traps

In these dark, cold and ever so wet months, we have been setting camera traps up in the woods and seeing what animals they catch. Here are some of our best clips ...

This clip shows a couple of Roe Deer ... not the antlers on the young stag that comes in towards the end of the clip.
